Author Guidelines

Article 1. About the Journal
The mission of this Journal is to publish original scholarly articles in the fields of educational communications and technology. The Journal welcomes empirical research regarding educational communications and technology, studies on the integration of technology in teaching, and scholarly review articles. The Journal accepts both theoretical and practice-oriented research articles as well as review and commentary articles characterized by critical and generative thinking. Manuscripts adapted from master’s and doctoral theses are also considered for publication.
Article 2. Indexing and Abstracting
The Journal is currently indexed in the Taiwan Journal Index System and the Taiwan Humanities and Social Sciences Citation Index. The Journal is also applying for inclusion in the Taiwan Social Sciences Citation Index and various international research databases.
Article 3. Publication Frequency and Review Process
The Journal is published three times a year, with issues released in April, August, and December. Manuscripts may be submitted on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Article 4. Online Submission and Originality Screening
To expedite manuscript processing, the Journal accepts submissions exclusively through its online submission system. Detailed instructions for submission and file upload are provided in Article 7, “Manuscript Upload.” At the time of submission, authors are required to confirm through the online submission system that their manuscript is an original work. All manuscripts undergo an originality screening procedure involving our screening tools to ensure that they comply with our publishing policies. Manuscripts that pass this screening will proceed to the peer review process.
Article 5. Writing and Formatting
5.1 The maximum word count is 15,000 Chinese words in principle.
5.2 Submissions must include the following two separate Word files:
5.2.1 Author Information File: The author information file (Word format) should list the following information in sequence for all authors:
–Chinese name, academic or professional title, and institutional affiliation;
–English name, academic or professional title, and institutional affiliation.
One author must be designated as the corresponding author. The corresponding author’s contact information, including their telephone number, email address, and mailing address, must be clearly indicated.
5.2.2 Manuscript File: The manuscript file (Word format) should contain only the Chinese and English titles, Chinese and English abstracts, and the main text. The Journal adopts a double-blind peer review process. Authors’ names and any information that could identify the authors must not appear in the manuscript file.
5.3 Each submission must include both Chinese and English titles and abstracts. The required order is a Chinese abstract of no more than 500 words followed by three to five keywords; and an English abstract of no more than 300 words followed by three to five keywords.
5.4 The main text, including tables, figures, notes, appendices, and references, should begin on a new page following the abstracts.
5.5 All tables and figures must be numbered and provided with titles and should follow APA style guidelines. For personal names and proper nouns that include foreign-language equivalents, the original-language terms should be provided in parentheses. The hierarchical numbering of section headings should follow the following format: 1, 1.1, 1.1.1.
5.6 All in-text citations and references must conform to the style guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
5.7 All coauthors of submitted manuscripts must have made substantial contributions. The manuscripts must be free of plagiarism, and the data must be accurate and from reliable sources. All manuscripts must report original academic research, and the corresponding author must complete a declaration of originality when submitting the manuscript.
5.8 Submitted manuscripts must disclose the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools, and the corresponding author must declare that the manuscript complies with the Journal’s GAI guidelines.
5.9 If a manuscript is adapted from a research project, the original research participants and the award/funding organization should be noted at the end of the manuscript; if a manuscript is adapted from a degree thesis, the author, year, title, university, department, and degree should be noted at the end of the manuscript.
5.10 If authors discover errors in their submitted manuscripts, they must proactively notify the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief and Rotating Editors before the manuscript is officially published.
Article 6. Peer Review Process
6.1 All submissions are subject to an initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that do not meet the Journal’s formatting and formal requirements will be returned to the authors for revision before proceeding to subsequent stages of review.
6.2 For manuscripts that are submitted in the required format, under normal circumstances, the Journal shall complete the first round of external peer review within 3 months after the manuscript has passed the initial editorial screening.
6.3 All articles published in the Journal must undergo initial editorial screening, anonymous peer review by two or more external reviewers, and a final decision by the Editorial Board, in that order. Only manuscripts that successfully pass all stages of review will be accepted for publication.
6.4 The Journal reserves the right to edit and revise manuscripts as necessary for editorial purposes, and to determine the volume and issue in which an accepted manuscript will be published.
6.5 The procedures for anonymous external peer review are outlined in the following table. The Editor-in-Chief or the Editorial Board shall make a final decision on the basis of the overall quality of the manuscript and the reviewers’ comments.
Article 7. Manuscript Upload

7.2 Authors are required to complete all required information specified in the online submission system and to upload an author information file (Word format) and a manuscript file (Word format).

Article 8. Copyright, Withdrawal, Rejection, Revision, Changes to Authorship, and Publication Scheduling
8.1 Once a manuscript has entered the peer review stage, withdrawal is not permitted. Requests for withdrawal in exceptional circumstances must be submitted for approval by the Editorial Board. Authors who withdraw a manuscript without valid reasons shall not be permitted to submit manuscripts to the Journal for a period of 2 years.
8.2 For manuscripts accepted for publication, the authors are required to sign and submit a Copyright Transfer Agreement to the Journal stating that the copyright of their manuscript belongs to the Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology.
8.3 Submitted manuscripts must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, infringe copyright, or violate academic ethics. In the event of violation of these provisions, the authors shall bear full responsibility. In such cases, the Journal shall not accept submissions from the responsible author(s) for a period of 3 years and reserves the right to seek compensation proportionate to the severity of the violation.
8.4 Authors are required to submit revised manuscripts and a detailed response to reviewers’ comments within 1 month of receiving a revision request. Failure to submit revisions within the specified timeframe will be regarded as withdrawal of the manuscript. Authors encountering special circumstances are advised to contact the Editorial Office in advance.
8.5 After a manuscript has been submitted, requests to add authors or change the author order must be made to the editorial team. Such requests must be submitted no later than the time the external review is completed. Only after the review and approval for publication can authors be added or removed or changes to the author order be considered.
8.6 For any article accepted for publication, the Editorial Board of the Journal may revise or edit the content as required and determine the issue in which it will be published.
Article 9. Production and Publication Format
9.1 Authors are responsible for proofreading their manuscripts after typesetting. The Journal is responsible only for formatting.
9.2 Beginning with Issue 118 (April 2018), the Journal has been published exclusively in electronic format. Printed copies and author honoraria are no longer provided.
Article 10. Publication Fees
10.1 Beginning in February 2026, all articles submitted to this Journal and approved for publication will be subject to a publication fee.
10.2 The publication fee for each accepted manuscript is NT$1,000.
